Parks Where Your Pet Can Have a Barking Good Time:
If there’s one thing a dog really loves, it is getting to walk, romp and play in the great outdoors. There are several area parks that welcome dog lovers. Dogs really appreciate the fresh air and natural sights. Pets can trot down country roads or hike on a trail as long as they are on a secure leash.
These parks are popular among pet owners:
Cayuga Lake State Park
Located on the northwest shore of Cayuga Lake, Cayuga Lake State Park has everything you and your pet could want. If you both love the water, this is a wonderful place to go boating or fishing. Dogs can’t go into the swimming areas, but they can go anywhere else inside the park, including the nature trails.
Finger Lakes National Forest:
Nestled between Cayuga Lake and Seneca Lake is the vast Finger Lakes National Forest. With over 30 miles of interconnected trails the forest is a fantastic way to experience all facets of rustic beauty. Walk the 12-mile Interloken Trail or enjoy a scenic car ride through the area. During certain times of year fresh blueberries, apples and raspberries grow in abundance.
Taughannock Falls State Park:
Enter another world where nature trails take you along paths to observe ancient rock formations and native plants and flowers. Dogs are welcome on trails as long as they are on a leash and have proof of rabies vaccination. Any nature-loving dog will be happy to sniff out all sorts of interesting smells as you wind your way toward the magnificent waterfall. Taughannock Falls namesake waterfall attraction has a spectacular view. Water flows from the top down a 215-foot plunge into the creek.
Watkins Glen State Park:
The beautiful Watkins Glen State Park features a winding stone path that takes you along old rock formations, cascading waterfalls and lots of amazing scenic views. Dogs need proof of rabies vaccine and must be on a leash.
Woofing It Up at Local Wineries:
Ready to go on a Finger Lakes wine tasting tour? Great. Many local wineries allow you to bring along your pet for all the fun. Dogs need to be leashed at all times, under their owners control and well behaved. Some wineries don’t allow dogs inside tasting rooms, so check first before visiting.
