It’s Scary How Much is Going On Around the Finger Lakes this Month

October is going strong in the Finger Lakes and the fun doesn’t slow down in our area with the changing seasons. Visitors to the area are treated to an amazing display of fall colors as the trees turn from green to burnished yellow, orange and red. Ithaca Apple Harvest Festival – Ithaca, NY

Each year during the first week of October, Ithaca throws one of the best apple festivals in the whole of New York State. This year’s festival proved to be just as entertaining with games, rides, food, live performances and plenty of farm fresh apples on hand. For those who love real apple cider, homemade apple pie, handmade crafts and good old-fashioned family fun, downtown Ithaca was the perfect place to celebrate the season.

Tagsylvania – Big Flats, NY

Anyone who dares come to this haunted neck of the woods is welcome to explore the strangely weird sights and sounds found only at Tagsylvania. The brave of heart that venture this way will discover what lurks inside of Lecter’s bloody lair. If you’re up to the challenge, take a peek into the Psycho Swamp. And, for mere amusement spend some time at Jerkus Circus. Any ghouls, goblins and disturbed individuals you encounter here are sure to make the hair on your arms rise. Haunted History Tours of Auburn – Auburn, NY

For a “ghostly” good time during the last two weekends in October, take the haunted history tour of Auburn. Costumed guides from the Victorian era escort visitors around the historic district of Auburn and regal them with tales of ghastly funeral practices from the time, the dark history of the Seward House and the tale of Anthony Schimer’s gold. Visitors have also been known to see the Seward family pets and who doesn’t love a family dog or cat, except for the fact that they’ve been dead for over 100 years.

Ithaca Oktoberfest – Ithaca, NY

Eat, drink and dance your way through this year’s amazingly fun Oktoberfest sponsored by the Ithaca Downtown Alliance. Like all true German festivals, this one features bratwurst, turkey drums, sauerkraut, onion pie, pumpkin dishes, top quality beer, wines and tasty seasonal offerings.
